I have been an artist for as long as I can remember, over the years it has manifested itself in drawing, painting, jewellery/beading, sewing, crochet, felting…. each time I find myself deep in creative process I unravel another layer of who I am and my relationship with the world around me. When I was a younger woman, the expression was visceral, my pain body using artistic expression to live somewhere other than in my tissues.

And thank god for that.

These days my relationship with art is that of the maker.

I am a maker.

Craft is sacred, it is where we can find pieces of ourselves, perhaps even pieces of others. For there is a thread that knows not linear time, it exists across time, across worlds, across multiverses. In craft we can hold this thread, we can slip through time and space with this thread, opening our craft hearts to ancestors past present and future. reminding us we are not alone.

During Covid I did a spirit doll course with Julia Inglis of Sacred Familiar, this was my sourdough starter, this was my medicine during what was a difficult time here in Melbourne. Since then, my dolls have evolved, and I am excited for the journey ahead to see where the dolls take me. My dolls are rarely planned out, they reveal themselves through the fiber, and if I try to control the outcome to much, I tend to run into lots of blocks. These spirits are determined to come through as they see themselves, not as I see them.

My craft is part of my medicine, and I believe craft can also be a part of yours. Craft is cooking, craft is gardening, craft is decoupage, drawing, craft is daydreaming. Craft is expansion and connection to the natural world that lives deep within you and around you.
